Standard ways of communicating instantly

I've been a Jabber user for quite some time now. I like the fact that I can connect with colleagues using encrypted communications (I believe it's good to respect the privacy of my clients' communications at least as much as they do) if their IM client supports it (Psi does), that I'm using a standard, open protocol (so I stand more chance of connecting to a broad variety of IM systems), and that I can connect simultaneously to colleagues using AIM, YahooIM, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber (although the gateways I use to AIM and YahooIM sometimes briefly lose their connections).

I'm happy to hear that Google Talk can connect fully with Jabber clients. I've had a connection to Google Talk from Psi for a while now; I suspect this means I am not limited in what I can do across that bridge except by the capabilities of my Jabber client.

So, if you'd like to get in touch, let me know, and we can exchange IM names on the system you find easiest or best for your needs. If it happens to be Google Talk, we can also talk!
