Thanks, Microsoft!

Microsoft has announced it will support ODF, the Open Document Format, in MS Office. That's good news for those of us who don't want our important documents and data kept in formats we can't use unless we have access to one particular suite of software running on one or perhaps two particular operating systems.

So, thanks, Microsoft!

If you use MS Office, I encourage you to begin using ODF as the standard format in which to store all of your documents as soon as the option is available to you. Then you can continue to use MS Office, or you can select among a range of other tools to suit your evolving needs, and you can share documents with others in other organizations using the standard.

Thanks to the TP! Wire Service for publicizing this. I have yet to find the corresponding announcement on the Microsoft Web site.
